| I'm in doubt about Cape Verde. The best source (the chronicle of the voyage by the Italian Antonio Pigafetta) says "passando tra Capo Verde e le sue isole in 14 gradi e mezzo" (passing between Cape Verde and its islands in 14 degrees and a half [of N latitude]). So seemingly the ships sailed between Cape Verde or Cap-Vert (the cape itself, in modern Senegal) and the Cape Verde Islands, without disembarking in the islands (the modern country of Cape Verde). Of course, I'm assuming that by "visited" you mean that Magellan or his men actually landed on some part of the modern countries, not only that the ships sailed near their coasts. |
