The Pope probably can't read. I was hoping that more socialist countries were on there. But having Cuba number one is pretty great in my book.

newenglander - The list only includes 177 countries. Vatican City is not one of the ones listed. Some reports differ, I've seen Poland at 99.8% and Hungary at 99.4%. This is per the United Nations Development Programme report that was released earlier this year.

Being in that USSR sphere of influence really taught people to read.

Im sure Georgia had the highest literacy rate. Im sure i read that somewhere. And i would imagine there should be more european micronations there.

Quizzes like this shouldn't have more than 7 or 8 minutes. And I agree with above; much better cite is available.

Love that the data is in most cases based of "(written) surveys". Anyone else seeing a problem with selection bias? :)

"Based on self-report data." No knock on the quizmaker, but this quiz should be entitled "Countries That Lie About Their Literacy Rates."
