I got it off some sports writers blog. Many sporcle quizes are centered around opinion so i don't see what the problem is.

Yes, but these "opinion" quizzes on Sporcle always give the Source of whose opinion it is.

This quiz is ridiculous....anyone could just give up an opinion and make this exact quiz with different names. This should be removed from sporcle.

Mike Tyson - one of the most overrated boxers of all time. He always fought lesser opponents and refused to fight better fighters..oh..much like Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I personally would probably have gone with Lou Gehrig over Ted Williams (although I'm a Yankees fan, so I'm biased). And I was pretty shocked to see Bobby Hull as #2 at Hockey. Seriously? I'd take any of Lemieux, Orr, or Hower over Hull.

Mike Tyson!? Nope. This game is just some dude's opinion - some dude whos isn't fully educated as to WHY this is his opinion.

I agree with andrew430 - Hull was not even close to the second best hockey player ever, probably not even top 10

I have a problem with a source that does not even mention Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) in the greatest college basketball player category. 3 National Championships (Freshman couldn't play on the varsity team, so Kareem just led the JV team to a preseason victory against the defending national champion varsity team), the MOP of the Tournament in each of the three appearances, 2 player of the year awards, and an overall record of 88-2. The NCAA had to ban dunks because of this guy. I could see Russell being #1 over Kareem, but Maravich never even played in the Tournament, let alone won a single National Championship!

I stopped playing after Wilt Chamberlain wasn't on the list. You lose all credibility in the basketball area. Wilt was by FAR the greatest athlete to ever play basketball.

Williams is only runner-up if we are talking on hitting. Willie Mays or Ty Cobb are definitely #2 depending on your preference.

Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky are 1 and 2 in hockey, no doubt.

You marked down the answers wrong, the source has Spitz as the greatest and Phelps as number 2. You have them reversed

Also, as far as I can tell, Usain Bolt is not mentioned at all

Bobby Hull has no right to be on here. Maybe if it was a top ten list he would sneak in, but he is not a runner up to Gretzky.

No Maradona? Clearly this writer has no knowledge of football (or soccer as you would call it). To have Best at 2nd is ridiculous, not in the same league as Maradona in terms of talent, influence or achievements.

Wow, what a terrible list. I can't think of any use of the phrase 'greatest athlete' that makes sense for some of those picks. Tyson at #2 is an absolute joke.

there are some stuff that made me laugh my ass off. Zidane and Best were awesome. but they're not #2, Maradona, Platini, Van Basten... Armstrong at #1 is a joke. one of the greatest, for sure. but THE greatest, no way. he's not better than Indurain or Coppi. Jimmy Snuka? hahahahahahahahahahahahah

I still don't think Woods has surpassed Nicklaus. Especially considering his more recent performances.
