If anyone has any suggestions for the next state, feel free to speak up, as I'm not sure which one to do next. I picked Missouri mostly to showcase St. Louis' sharp decline since 1950; St. Louis holds the dubious record of the most shrunken big city (ever over 100,000) by percentage since its historical peak in the country. Hence the explosion of St. Louis and Kansas City suburbs on this list.

I love this series. How about Alabama next? Its largest city today is a relative newcomer.

Louisiana might be interesting.

St.Louis had its boundaries set by statute many years ago and the suburbs sprung up around it. There's been flight from the city by residents for years, and business has been flying out as well (no more auto industry, most manufacturing gone, Anheuser-Busch now owned by foreigh conglomerate). What was once a Top 5 US city a century ago has fallen significantly.

Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota would all be interesting.

This coming week, I'll get started on those states. It'll be a bit of time before I get more out, though.
