| I've been happy to accept the Sporcle convention on what counts as a country in the context of Sporcle quizzes, but to be called an idiot for believing my country, in which I've lived all my life, to be indeed a country takes a bit of getting used to! I am fed up with people commenting that England isn't a country (as opposed to isn't usually treated as one in a Sporcle context which is more or less OK), so rather than vote me down could somebody please explain by what token you manage to know better than: the UK government, the European Union, the Commonwealth Games, FIFA, UEFA, FIDE, the ICC and numerous other international organisations, not to mention those of us who actually live here? Because the only reason I ever see advanced in support of this spurious hypothesis is that England isn't a sovereign state, which I don't think anyone claimed it was. Voting comments up or down is not the same thing as rational debate. Does anyone actually have a reason or a source for their views, or is it just some prejudice? [Incidentally, my sources can be found on the websites of organisations cited above.] |
