	regardless of the date of the inaguration the new president officially assumes office at noon on january 20th even if they have not taken the oath this is mandated in the lame duck amendment of the constitution that changed the date of the inaguaration from march 4th to january 20th. also the date of the inaguaral would not change in a new year based on the election if a president is reelcted he still must take the oath again as he will be starting a new term.

	Perhaps it's too much info for the space, but I'd be curious to know the reasoning for the ones who didn't follow the normal pattern. Some I know (Johnson, Truman, etc.), but certainly not all.

	I only missed one. You know why? I remembered the dates all the Presidents died in office, when Nixon resigned, and the fact it changed from March 4 to January 20. So who did I miss? Washington.

	I really like the quiz; I knew all this stuff from about seventh to eighth grade and now, I am sixteen years old. One day, I would like a whole lot of people, nation wide, to know that I know this at a young age. However, I would like YOU, THE CREATOR to know that Zachary Taylor was TECHNICALLY inagurated on Monday, March 5, 1849. This was due, because, he was nominated to be our 12th president on Sunday, March 4, 1849. He did not want to be inagurated on a Sunday, so a person of the name: David Rice Atchison, was president of the United States of America for only one day. He said he slept during his one-day-term because he was in a meeting late the previous night. Thus, according to history, Zachary Taylor was inagurated the next day on Monday, March 5, 1849.

	@ZapRowsdower: Four men took office following assassinations (Arthur, T. Roosevelt, both Johnsons), four took office following the natural death of the president (Tyler, Fillmore, Coolidge, Truman), one took office following a resignation (Ford), and one took office on the day the new government happened to start (Washington). The rest, of course, followed the natural pattern, which was March 4 before FDR and January 20 thereafter.

	Since this quiz was published this morning, the following changes have been made by sporcle: the third column which included a full list was deleted; slight color changes; a new source was added; Taylor was moved from March 4 to March 5 (and spelled incorrectly) - as per the source (maybe?); all comments from today up until about 6:30 PM EDT were moved to the archive. I received 2 emails saying I was published so I can only assume the quiz was shut down, reformatted, then re-published

	Furthermore, a quick word on the Taylor controversy. I chose my words very carefully. I did not ask for the president's inauguration date, I asked for the date he assumed office. Taylor was inaugurated on March 5 because March 4 fell on a Sunday (this has happened several times as can be seen in the new source - why none of those other 'Sunday Presidents' were moved to new dates by sporcle I can't answer). However, like every elected president before and after him until the 20th Amendment, he assumed office on March 4. It's an argument of semantics, I know, but in my opinion it makes for a more enjoyable quiz to use the dates they assumed office as opposed to inauguration dates. It makes for a much cleaner quiz that doesn't require overly obscure knowledge. I assume a lot of people can name the presidents who took over office mid-term due to death or resignation. I can't assume many people can name which presidents were inaugurated on Monday because the normal date happened to fall on a Sunday. The whole David Rice Atchison thing is a pure fabrication.

	Alright then! I read the above! I suppose I did not realize that there was a difference in those words. Thank-you! I just read in a History Channel Book "Stories Never Told About the Presidents" by Rick Beyer! It was an EXTREEMLY INTERESTING BOOK and I learn a lot more than I had about the presidents! Back then in Freshmen/Sophomore Years (2009-2011), I achieved memorizing them all, their facts, and dates. I mean, I already could list them by number and the dates of their terms before (back in Intermediate, seventh grade year). Now, at just over sixteen and a half, and a high school junior, you could give me a number between one and forty four; I could recite the president, birth date, death date, days of their terms (hence is why I thought it should had been March 5th), political parties, states they were born in and most of the states they died in! I am not one hundred percent positive on some of them. Yeah I get what you were saying there, I just read it in that book. It is fun though answering questions people ask me about the number of the presidents! :D Anyway, about those people who could be given a date and could say the day of the week such as Sunday or Wednesday, et cetera, are REALLY SMART AND INTELLIGENT PEOPLE! I CANNOT DO THAT! Thank-you for you and one above who answered my first comment!
