By putting this quiz together I ended up with a spreadsheet with points for all 203 teams that made the tourney in the last decade. I'd hate to see that go to waste so if you have a team you want to know the score for, post it in the comments and I'll respond

The two most interesting teams to me were Florida and BYU. Despite winning it all twice (for 122 pts), Florida didn't crack the top ten because their other appearance scores were (-8, -12, -5, -12, -1, -7). BYU lost 6 of their 7 first round games racking up -42 pts before finally getting a win last season...against Florida

Why does losing the play-in game result in a 16 point penalty? The two teams are pretty much even.

Re-tool the formula so that Florida is on here.

How is George Mason not on the best list? Seems like a flawed system..kinda like the BCS.

@UTR I did it that way mostly for consistency, and because in my mind if you lose the play-in-game you preformed pretty poorly in the tournament. As a counter example, there were times in later rounds when a 10 would play an 11. Now those two teams are pretty much even, but the loser would still lose 10+ points. The system is by no means perfect, but I put it together as a slightly better measure than just "how far did you get?" If someone else wants to make a system that determines points based on what both you and your opponent's seeds are, I say go for it

@ABarrett Mason falls short because they only made 3 tournaments. So even though they did really, really well in one of them (48 pts), they didn't win a game in either other appearance. This is a list of best and worst programs over a 10 year span, not a list of best and worst teams at any one tournament over those 10 years

This is WAAAAY too mundane to calculate tournament performance. If you want it based on seed you need to base it on some seed differential formula.

good quiz...worst is much harder than best, although i guess you would expect that. FYI UNC Charlotte is now just known as Charlotte
