North Carolina has won five basketball championships (1957, 1982, 1993, 2005 and 2009).

My guess would be Detroit. Can't imagine a lot of fencing going on in Nebraska...could be wrong though.

I'd say there is a lot of fencing in Nebraska, but not the sport kind. The Wayne State is Detroit is the one that is good at fencing.

Cool quiz. You could expand it even more.

It's Wayne St in Detroit, added the (MI) in which I originally thought was superfluous, but apparently sporclers know of many Wayne St universities. Not sure how I left off UNC (I suspect an accidental deletion). Even worse, I dropped them and left Duke in. ::shudders::

Football are wrong. I know you list it in the note, but there is no such thing as an NCAA football title for FBS. The NCAA only awards a championship for FCS (I-AA) and the lower divisions. The schools listed have won zero NCAA football titles.

The Div II/III designations are misleading, as all these schools (Johns Hopkins for example) are Divison I in the sport they are listed under. I saw Div III and immediately typed Hobart (eventhough they have 13, not 9). I know the quiz title says DI but its confusing.

Your last answer in the football column does not appear when typing in the name that gets the overall/baseball leader to appear.

As somebody who has had his vehicle broken into on the campus of Wayne State while in grad school, I can attest to the popularity of fencing in that neighborhood.

Not sure why everyone is voting down bsd987. He's right. The NCAA has never awarded a title to the programs listed in this quiz. The NCAA has separate FBS and FCS divisions, with only the FCS teams getting a championship trophy from the NCAA. Alabama, Nebraska, etc. have National Titles from the AP and BCS, but not NCAA titles.

@y2jdilemma: yeah, I wasn't really sure what to do with that. On the one hand it's misleading because they're DI in that specific sport, but in the source they're marked as DII and DIII, and I figured marking it would prevent the inevitable comments of "NYU isn't DI!" etc. @bsd and others: I was debating including football for that very reason (and because the AP vs. Coaches thing is complicated). So I suppose since there's plenty of other quizzes where you can name NCAA Football champions, I'll cut it out of this one

North Dakota is in fact a division I school (as of a few years ago). They play in the Great West in basketball and baseball.
