Although this is an interesting quiz, I immediately noticed a major flaw. Portuguese is the native language of 60% of the population of Angola and the second language of 20%. The countries population is 11.2 million. It should therefore be third in the list. There are more Portunuese speakers in Germany, Spain, India, Guinea-Bissau and the USA than there are in France, Paraguay or South AFrica. I am very dubious about some of the other figures too. I will research and repost.

It was difficult finding accurate data for Portuguese with the excection of Brazil and Portugal, obviously. For now, I'm taking your advice in adding Angola as third, bumping down France and South Africa and entirely removing Paraguay. Thanks for helping me revise this quiz, and any future posts on how to perfect it will be greatly appreciated -Diego Sanchez

Good idea for a quiz but as was said above figures are incorrect, although I imagine it is hard to collect accurate data for this. Portuguese should read Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Portugal and USA. French should read Democratic republic of the Congo, France, Cote D'Ivoire, Mali, Senegal (discounting Madagascar). Italian should read Italy, Brazil, Argentina, USA and France. Romanian should read Romania, Moldova, Spain, Italy and USA. All in order using Ethnologue and Wikipedia. Cheers

Counting Haiti as French-speaking is stretching things a bit, as it's more of a separate language descended from French (i.e. a bit like Afrikaans or Tok Pisin).

You might double-check this with some older Wikipedia quizzes on the same theme which weren't limited to Romance languages (e.g. most English, Russian, Chinese, etc., speakers).

Don't forget to allow "Dem Rep of the Congo", since I tried it and was met with nothing, much to my dismay upon the end of the quiz.
