The minute and hour hand overlap at 1:06, not 1:05. Think about it, after 6 minutes, the hour hand is exactly 1/5 of the way to the number 2, and therefore on the tick-mark overlapping with the minute hand. Ditto for 2:12.

@michael1: Hours have 60 minutes in them. 6 minutes after 1:00, the hour hand is approximately
1/10th
of the way to the number 2. (The hands actually intersect at 1:05 and 27 seconds, so we round down.)
