I liked it. "O" will be stuck in my head all day, though. Thanks for that. ALO does a fantastic cover of that song for anyone interested.

@tradition: I don't think so, unless you want to include Lovely Rita. Very enjoyable. Jon5417 is correct, so please fix, but I'm making this an Editor's Choice.

The Nikita one threw me off a bit, because I didn't understand why 'Norma Jean' wasn't working!

Nikita's a little iffy, I think - the video shows a woman, but the song never mentions gender and "Nikita" is definitely a man's name.

@d43b - Jude is a dude. Paul wrote it for Julian Lennon when his parents were splitting up.

Who's this Bjork person? If you can't spell Björk properly, just google it and copy&paste, not difficult :P Sorry, but it's a massive pet peeve of mine.

I hope someone says to me they think a certain Beatles song is about a girl, just so I can reuse that fabulous rhyming snap- "Jude is a dude." LOL

emn8: Nikita can go either way. Perhaps in the original context it was a man's name but I've personally known female Nikitas. Just like Merle, Sandy, Tracy or Robin.

While "Nikita" may be a female name in many places ("La Femme Nikita" comes to mind, and I've also known a female Nikita or two), the song "Nikita" is specifically about a Russian during the Cold War, and I'm pretty sure that in Russia it's still strictly a male name. (See also the Wikipedia page.)

This reminds me of the scene from Family Guy where Brian gets on Stewie's case for writing a song named after a girl. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErPsx8zdnX4

Frustrating, as Beatles also played Eleanor Rigby, Lovely Rita, Anna (Go to Him), The Ballad of John and Yoko, Carol, Lady Madonna, Maggie Mae, Michelle, Polythene Pam, and Sexy Sadie. Barenaked Ladies also played 'Enid' and 'Jane.' Beach Boys also had 'Caroline, No' on Pet Sounds.

"Gloria" may have been written and sung by Van Morrison and included on his Greatest Hits compilations, but the artist was "Them"!

Interesting choices, but some were a bit too "safe." And no love for the Oak Ridge Boys? Their only two Top 40 pop hits were both girls' names ("Bobbie Sue" and the classic "Elvira").

Hmmm... Reel Big Fish also sing a song called "Valerie". I would've known *that* one... But good quiz. Of course, there are a million songs about girls, but the author had to pick some and did a good job.

I actually saw a pianist at a piano bar years ago, who, on a dare, was able to play a song for a girl's name for every letter from A to Z. I forget what she used for Q. X was the theme song from Brazilian actress Xuxa's children's show.

I know you put the song year, but Barbra Ann for the Beach Boys, and Michelle and Eleanor Rigby for the Beatles...
