Kind of an appropriate user name for this quiz.
I had the extreme fortune to see Harry Chapin perform live 3 times. Only he & Springsteen have ever had that kind of a hold on an audience, and The Boss has publicly stated he learned a lot about concerts from Chapin. Great band, great songs, great stories. I saw him perform a 3-hour show, and get 3 encores. After the 3rd encore, the house lights went on, which at every other concert I've ever been to works like an off-switch to applause. Not this time. The crowd were on their feet and cheering for another five minutes. Roadies were dismantling the stage and still we cheered on. Finally, Harry came on with an acoustic guitar and his cello player and performed another song. Just magic. A wonderful man, both on & off stage - he basically invented the all-star charity concert - whose life ended way too soon. |
