Defining a city or town can be tricky. For example, the city in Maryland is an unincorporated "Census Designated Place." The one in Montana is a consolidated city/county. The one in New Jersey is a "borough." If I've missed any, let me know.

Silverton Colorado is missing. Goldsboro, NC is named for a person, not the element. I doubt Golden Valley is named for the element, probably more for fall colors, but that's a guess.

Silverton Colorado's population is well below 5000, according to the Census -- see http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/files/SUB-EST2008-ALL.csv. My goal is to be inclusive in what being "named for element" means -- hence the inclusion of borderline cases like "Golden" and "Goldsboro."

I think that even "over 5000" leaves you with towns that are far too small to be recognizable.
