| A good quiz idea, but there are some omissions/errors: pitchblende should have an 'e' on the end, the name for sulfuric acid should be oil of vitriol (or just vitriol), bologna stone should be accepted for barium sulfide, stibnite refers to antimony sulfide and not the element itself, calamine should probably be accepted for zinc carbonate and definitely for zinc oxide (the name was used for any oxidized zinc ore (smithsonite and hemimorphite mostly), or zinc oxide obtained by smelting). In addition, lead oxide is ambiguous - there are litharge and massicot, two crystal forms of PbO, and minium, which is Pb3O4 ("red lead"). Same goes for iron oxide: there is Fe3O4 (lodestone, now called magnetite), and Fe2O3 (hematite). As for a couple of additional clues, copper sulfate was called "blue vitriol" while iron(II) sulfate was called "green vitriol" (the name refers to the color of the compounds and their relation to sulfuric acid). Overall a great idea for a quiz though. |
