| Small note: it's Adlai Stevenson (not Adalai). Otherwise love the quiz! |
 | hscer: | Sep 27th, 2009 at 04:00 GMT | | 4 points |
| Wish I'd thought of this one. Minor note, you should make an alternate answer for 1960 because it's accepting the suffix as the last word, instead of his surname. |

| It should accept Cabot Lodge or Lodge. |

| At the moment, the Presidential candidate for 1976 says "Gergald Ford." Reminds me of some sort of Sesame Street caricature. |

| No love for Admiral Stockdale? |

| I really did go through and type all the candidates last names, just to increase my score... Sporcle, you've gotten to me. |

| Hopefully this is the only time Palin will ever be the most guessed answer in a Sporcle quiz. |

| Hmm, well Teddy Roosevelt was a 3rd party candidate in 1912 -- Taft was the Republican candidate. |

| I tried Bob Dole as a wild guess and didn't know he was an answer. Was he really that prominent back then? And why did Rockefeller not want to run again? |

| I just realized how close we came to having that wonderful human being John Edwards in the White House. |

| @quent1979 - We almost had *Lieberman.* |

| SARGENT SHRIVER!!! my schools campus center is named after him and i still forgot it. |

| @quent1979: The option for 2004 was Edwards or Dick Cheney. Oh, we as a country can sure pick out winners for our highest offices, can't we? |
Comment below threshold: show it | RebeccaAMax: | Apr 28th, 2010 at 16:22 GMT | | -7 points |
| yeah, disclaimer: I would rather have had Lieberman than Cheney. Only it's a bit silly to say "o noes Edwards!" when 2004 wasn't the election decided by the Supreme Court rather than the voters. |

| Well, I'm glad I hit on the lame tactic of typing in the surnames of the failed Presidential candidates, which about doubled my rather miserable score... *sigh* |

| @jefe_: Agreed - unless it's Michael Palin. |
 | dxman: | Apr 29th, 2010 at 01:29 GMT | | 3 points |
| @Fillmore: Eagleton is an acceptable answer for 1972. |
 | jaymc: | Apr 29th, 2010 at 04:40 GMT | | 9 points |
| Yes, and a good thing b/c I could only remember him and not Shriver.
@Craig_Hodges: If the quiz included Stockdale, people would be asking, "Who is he? Why is he here?" ;-) |

| Once there was a poor widow with two sons. One of them went away to sea, and the other became Vice President of the United States. Neither was ever heard of again.
dxman: Rockefeller was acceptable as a fill-in VP; he had no interest in being VP for another term, when he'd repeatedly sought the Presidential nomination and failed. Plus he was from a wing of the party that was in eclipse. Dole wasn't especially well known, but he was a prominent Senator and a safe choice. |

| Landon almost chose New Hampshire Senator Styles Bridges as his running mate; he was rejected because the GOP was worried that Dems would taunt the ticket with chants of "Landon Bridges falling down" |
 | sobdennis: | Jun 15th, 2010 at 18:29 GMT | | 2 points |
| I got 24. I remembered Stevenson's grandfather had been VP under Cleveland and vaguely remembered he ran again under Bryan. I forgot that Bryan's brother had run.
I think Taft's, Wallace's, and Thurmond's running mates should be bonuses at least. Certainly Taft since he was the GOP candidate. |

| I feel good with 86/% for only 10 answers. I'm 32, so I could remember everyone's VP back to Carter, but I'll never forget now that Dole ran with Ford in 76! And I never knew FDR had an unsuccessful bid for VP. This is an educational quiz, well done. |

| Very interesting that typing in four of the losing Presidential candidate names gets you four additional answers on this quiz - none of which are the same person. |
 | bradleyk: | May 28th, 2012 at 07:06 GMT | | 2 points |
| It gave me Shriver for Eagleton. |
 | Dave78514: | Jul 26th, 2012 at 16:31 GMT | | 1 point |
| @bradleyk the reason Shriver is the correct answer for McGovern is because Shrivers name was on the ballot in November not Eagleton's. McGovern asked Eagleton to leave the ticket eightneen days after selecting him due to his previous mental health issues. |

| I FIND IT INTERESTING THAT IT SHOWED THEODORE ROOSEVELT WITH JOHNSON AS THE LOSING TEAM FOR 1912 EVEN THOUGH THE BULLMOOSE PARTY WAS A THIRD PARTY. IT SHOULD SHOW WILLIAM TAFT AND JAMES SHERMAN (WHO DIED DAYS BEFORE THE ELECTION)AS THE REPUBLICAN TICKET |
