| @cjmulran, you have to re-watch that game. Rhodes should have been third after Addai (roughly 150 yards from scrimmage including a then-record 10 catches) and Manning. Look at the D sets for the Bears--they almost never had 8 in the box, and rarely seven--they were begging Indy to run. They were playing against the passing game and notably, the only big pass was on a blown coverage. Otherwise, Manning pitched a masterful game of short passes (Addai) and runs when he got the defensive looks he wanted. Little forced into double coverage (one early pick). He was in offensive coordinator mode and he took what the D gave him without any mistakes. It may not have looked glamorous in the driving rain (remember that? What kind of numbers do you expect for a QB in driving rain? The only SB ever in the rain, it features six fumbles and three picks.), but it was a great game plan/execution and his best game of a very ordinary post-season. Plus, Indy started down 7 pts in the first ten seconds--the other 59:50 they subtly controlled with few knockout punches but a ton of accurate jabs without giving anything up. Rhodes had just one more yard than Thomas Jones for the bears--do you think Jones should have been second in line for the MVP? |
