| I'm not currently accepting prior names (which for some teams there are quite a few), as I think it's more of a challenge to come up with the team's current name. I can't really put the original team name in the 3rd column because it's occupied by the year of formation (this is because I split the quiz into 4 columns). I cut down the time from 5 to 4 minutes to make it a little more challenging also. As for formation dates, as I said, I'm just going by what my sources list. However, I am aware that several teams were formed prior to the formation date listed, either as independent teams or in leagues which are considered to be predecessors of the current leagues. For instance, both the Braves and Cubs played in the National Association before joining the National League. The NA existed from 1871-75 but was poorly organized and is not considered a "major" league by the majority of baseball historians. My 4 sources include the following leagues as "major" leagues: in baseball, NL, AA, UA, PL, AL, and FL; in football, APFA, NFL, AAFC, and AFL; in basketball, BAA, NBA, and ABA (but not NBL); and in hockey, NHL and WHA. |
