Wow, Ivy Leaguers may be smart, but they are not very imaginative when naming their sport teams. Three teams here are just colors. -Columbia Graduate, Class of 2017

@daser: this is because either they don't actually have an official mascot, just a school color,as in Dartmouth's case. Or, in Yale's instance, they are home to the very first mascot. So its not so much they're not very imaginative, they just imagined the idea first.

@daser: I guess that's what happens when you name your teams before names are in vogue. Dartmouth got its name in the 1860s, Harvard at about the same time, and Cornell in the 1900's.

Maybe because its the University of Pennsylvania so it's technically between yale and Princeton? But I'm not sure. I was thinking the same thing...

Go Princeton as well. When Dartmouth plays Cornell, it is Big Red vs. Big Green

Dartmouth caught mascot fever in the 1920s...when Dartmouth Indians became popular for their teams...until the 1970s when this became socially unacceptable. So if they ever schedule Oklahoma State it will be Cowboys & Big Green.

Came close to getting them all. Typed "Green" and "Red" because for some reason I forgot the "Big" part.
