City Population, Wikipedia
There are some cases where a club is located in a neighbouring city. In such cases, it is the population of the city represented in the club name that counts. The 2012/2013 season is included.

I would suggest adding the team that comes from the city, and perhaps the season of their most recent participation in the third column. Interesting quiz.

Anorthosis Famagusta play in Larnaca now and Villeneuve-d'Ascq (where LOSC Lille play) has a population of only 60,000ish.

Some headache cases you brought up there, yellowcarpet. :-/ Both are cases of a club beeing located in a neighbouring city (although I find it kind of strange considering Lille to be in a different city when their distance from the center is comparable to Liverpool FC/Everton's distances to Liverpool city center). I think I'll stick with my list, but add a clarification note stating that it is the city it represents (in the club name) that counts.

Extremely tricky, but really clever - great idea for a quiz, really enjoyed it.

This is an excellent quiz. @Cryptus - why? that would be giving away most of the answers on the quiz and take away the enjoyment of playing it.

Small annotation: it's "1.FC Kaiserslautern", not "FC Kaiserslautern". Teams with "1.FC" (most prominently Kaiserslautern, Nuremberg and Cologne) take this very seriously.

@thebantams1903 I meant like he's done it, have the third column only appear when you guess the city. That hadn't been done when I commented.

How about Helsingborg - they reached the group stage in 2000/2001 and the population of the city is 97,122.
Oct 13th, 2012 at 11:58 GMT
Helsingborg has a population of 130,626 according to my source.

How about Solna, or do AIK count as representing Stockholm?
Oct 14th, 2012 at 17:06 GMT
I considered AIK to be in Stockholm, but then perhaps I should consider Anderlecht to be in Brussel. I'm not quite sure, to be honest.

Unbelievably difficult! Great quiz though
Oct 16th, 2012 at 20:13 GMT
Update: I have thought about AIK Solna, and come to the conclusion that Solna definitely should be in list, pushing Anderlecht out. I've also revised all participating clubs again, and have not detected any similar ambiguities.
