Just goes to show how Eurocentric UNESCO is, with more than half the countries here in Europe. Newsflash to UNESCO: Heritage exists in other parts of the world as well!

Yowza... I knew these things were Eurocentric, but when you've got places like Belgium and Portugal with more sites than any African country (where, you know, human heritage began), or anywhere in the Fertile Crescent... something's definitely amiss.

it's also the willingness or ability of the host country to protect a site. cant make something a world heritage and go on with business as usual (mining, farming etc).
