| The comments about the lack of Scottish names are just plain wrong. Smith is the most common surname in Scotland (which has been English speaking for many centuries and they had as many Blacksmiths etc as the rest of the UK). Other surnames in the list that are amongst the 20 most common in Scotland are Brown, Wilson, Thomson, Robertson, Campbell, Anderson, Scott, Reid, Murray, Taylor, Clark, Mitchell, Walker, Watson and Young. There are lots of other Scottish names in the list. In other words there is a far higher proportion of Scottish names than one would expect on the basis of population. |
