In Xanadu did Kubla Khan-
Where Alph, the sacred river, ranDown to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground-
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills-
And here were forests ancient as the hills-
But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted-
A savage place! as holy and enchanted By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething-
A mighty fountain momently was forced-
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail-
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever-
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion-
Then reached the caverns measureless to man-

And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far-
The shadow of the dome of pleasure -
Where was heard the mingled measure-
It was a miracle of rare device -
A damsel with a dulcimer -
It was an Abyssynian maid Singing of Mount Abora
Could I revive within me -
To such a deep delight 'twould win me -
I would build that dome in air-
And all who heard should see them there His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice -
For he on honeydew hath fed -
