In Xanadu did Kubla Khan-
Where Alph, the sacred river, ranDown to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground-
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills-
And here were forests ancient as the hills-
But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted-
A savage place! as holy and enchanted By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething-
A mighty fountain momently was forced-
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail-
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever-
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion-
Then reached the caverns measureless to man-

I would build that dome in air-
And all who heard should see them there His flashing eyes, his floating hair!

For he on honeydew hath fed -
