| I promise that I'm criticizing the message and not the messenger, but Led Zeppelin - jam band? What?? I love Zep, and have almost all their stuff, but they are not even ARGUABLY in this genre. I would put them in the 'heavy metal' category before this one, and I never even liked that designation. Santana can certainly be considered a jam band, though not a pure one, and Hendrix without The Experience is legitimate as well, as his Band of Gypsies project definitely had jam elements. The My Morning Jacket I know is not jam music, but maybe some of their early stuff was - I can't speak for that. This list is far from perfect, but it is not terrible. Check out Tea Leaf Green if you want to catch a great 'lyrical jam band', if that's not an oxymoron. |
