"Non-German": Kirsten played for Germany after the reunion. So did Marschall.

And Di Stefano played for Spain. The point is he played for Argentina as well. The rule of thumb I've been using is if they played for a different international country they count but if they only played for the country the league is in then they don't no matter where they were born. So Podolski, who was born in Poland but only ever played for Germany isn't here but Kirsten is because he played for the GDR as well as Germany. I should probably explain that somewhere.

That isn't really convincing in my opinion. When Kirsten and Marschall played in the Bundesliga there were no GDR anymore, they played for unified Germany during that time. Besides that the East Germans were Germans too.

Sure but the Bundesliga isn't just the german league it's the league of the Bundesrepublik. And Kirsten and Marschall both played for a non Bundesrepublik team. If in the English version of this quiz, I include scots and welshmen who are from the same politcal country I can't not include the eats germans who too had a seperate fifa team which competed seperately in world cups. And yes Kirsten only played for the GDR before he played for the Bundesliga in the same way that Hodgson only played for South Africa before he arrived in England and Puskas only played for Hungary before he arrived in Spain where he played for the spanish team. Would Puskas not count as a non spaniard for you? Would Altafini not count as a non italian? I just don't see how you can consider it unfair to include them. Maybe if I didn't give you the "eastgermany/germany" nationality as a hint, but I do.

What about Willi Lippens who scored 92 times for Rot-Weiß Essen and Borussia Dortmund?
