Gone way too soon. Just goes to show you how much drugs hurt. RIP. You will be truly missed.
Feb 12th, 2012 at 00:45 GMT
this is such sad news :( first etta james, then whitney! our legends are leaving us. RIP Whitney. You had one of, if not the greatest, voice of all time
Feb 12th, 2012 at 00:47 GMT
What a stupid, stupid waste of her life. An incredible voice and talent thrown away on drugs. It may not have been the immediate cause of her death, but it undoubtedly led to it.

I fear we lost her long before today...
Feb 12th, 2012 at 00:55 GMT
god damn Whitney, why do this? so many talented people just trow their lives down the drain
Feb 12th, 2012 at 00:59 GMT
It just shows how bad I am at keeping track of "who's hot" that I knew nothing of the tailspin the last couple of years had been for Whitney. RIP, you will be remembered in my heart for what you were, not what happened to you.

I was fortunate enough to see Whitney Houston in concert just before her 2nd album came out. Probably the peak of her live career. She sang 3 or 4 songs from "Whitney" before they'd been released, and every time she did I thought, "wow, that sounds like a #1 song" then thought, "no, it's not possible to have 4 #1 songs from an album".
But she did.

This quiz coming so quickly ( Ie minutres) following the sad but almost inevitable end of her life seems a bit ghoulish, no?
Feb 12th, 2012 at 01:46 GMT
The quiz was created over a year ago, but it seems an appropriate place to leave respectful comments.

I can't stop the tears long enough to take the quiz. She was such a huge part of my "childhood," and her death just brings back so many overwhelming emotions. RIP Whitney. You're finally free.

was just on itunes and was wondering why "I will always love you" was suddenly in the top 10 downloaded songs. Then when I came here and saw this quiz published, I figured it out. A sad loss of an amazing voice

A great quiz created a year ago for an amazing person born 48 years ago. It's too sad under the circumstances it was published.

Billie Holliday, Patsy Cine, Janis Joplin, Karen Carpenter, Whitney Houston. So many talented female gone before their time. RIP Whitney.

I was a teen in the 80's and my friends and I listened to stuff like Van Halen, AC/DC, maybe some U2 and Bruce Springsteen. But Whitney Houston was just so damn good that every time one her songs came on I would listen to it all the way through. As industry types on CNN tonight have been saying, as a singer, she was the gold standard. R.I.P. Whitney.

RIP Whitney. Such a sad day.

well, all I got was I Will Always Love You

@biloxisean: and Mama Cass, Amy Winehouse, Sandy Denny, there's just so many we lost too young

I was born in the 90s, about at the beginning of Whitney's decline. While she's not my favorite 80s singer, I can admit she had a unique voice and amazing control over it. Unfortunately, at that height of fame, temptations arise and Ms. Houston wasn't able to resist the allure of drugs. While it seems she was fighting the addiction right before her death and trying to get back into acting, she unfortunately wasn't able to succeed. R.I.P.

Whitney's death made me remember I need to service my snowblower.

please specify that this is for the billboard hot 100 chart because 'one moment in time' and 'i have nothing' were #1 on the billboard adult contemporary chart in 1988 and 1993, respectively.

@Alex: Unfortunately, Whitney didn't find that learning to love herself, the greatest love of all, was easy to achieve.

@rockgolf: I saw Whitney Houston on that same tour. The date was June 9, 1991 (I remember because I missed Game 4 of the NBA Finals that night). The place was Pensacola, Florida. When she sang The Greatest Love of All, which was her finale, people all over the arena were hugging and crying. Now, sadly, she has people crying for a different reason.

Her Olympic anthem "One Moment in Time" was my class song when I graduated from high school (class of 1989). I'll never be able to listen to it the same way again.

In the words of another great performer that left us before their time: "Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight Here One Day Gone One Night Like A Sunset Dying With The Rising Of The Moon Gone Too Soon." R.I.P. Whitney and Michael
