Regardless of whether the Sporcle standard should be changed, it almost certainly isn't going to be.
There are a lot of really debatable geographical, political issues that come up on Sporcle quizzes: the inclusion of Greenland; the independence of Palestine, Kosovo, Taiwan, etc; the status of England/Scotland/etc in international football... For a quiz site, it's obviously important to have a clear, accepted standard that everyone sticks to, and that rarely if ever gets changed (since changing it would mean older quizzes would either need rewriting or wouldn't meet it any more). While I don't agree with the calls Sporcle have made in some specific cases, I think overall they've done pretty well, and that it's worthwhile for all of us to stick to them. |
