| Similarly the McAdoo vs. Walton debate: (I don't agree with everything on this quiz, I just thought it was interesting. I debate some of these selections myself) But Bill Simmons makes the very persuasive case in his book that Bill Walton, in his prime, guaranteed your team a title. And he proved that. He was that good. For one single season and half of another (1977 and part of 78) one could argue he was the best that every played. (I am not saying he was the best who ever played, but over that season and a half he might have been playing on a higher level than anyone else is history ever has.) Bob McAdoo in his prime didn't guarantee you a title, as history shows. So would you rather have 2 1/2 trancendent years out of Walton or 10-12 very good years out of McAdoo? I'll take the 2 1/2 trancendent years from Walton every day of the week. A good football comparison: Would you rather have Terrell Davis's short career (2 super bowls and 2000 yard season) or Eddie George's longer career that didn't have the peak production? I'd take Terrell Davis. |
