No, no there is not. Christianity =/= hope. No religion does.

It is the national census in the UK in 2011, I wonder what changes it will show, and I expect the number might have falled below the 40 million mark. Interestingly in the last census in 2001 there were over 400000 jedi in the UK.

Unfortunately the figure here contradicts your "Atheist" Quiz where your figure for the UK is 25.6 million. If added to the figure for UK Christians you get more than the UK population. Just a small point but it's more reliable to get your fact from one source. As a side point I think it's interesting how many UK residents might casually tick "Christian" in a survey when really...many don't go to church or demonstrate any religious beliefs. I'd roughly estimate that maybe 50% of the UK are Atheist or agnostic.

@techwork: Maybe they aren't mutually exclusive. To me, being Christian means believing in Jesus' message of compassion and understanding. That does not imply the existence of a God, and prior to the First Council of Nicaea (325 AD) Jesus was indeed not universally considered to be the son of God.

Your source differs from the ranking in your quiz. (Germany is included in top 10, UK isn't)

In most Western European countries (except Italy, Spain and Portugal) a very large majority is atheist. So I don't think the UK should be on this list. I am sure Spain and Ukraine have more Christian people.

@johnlk Germany is a logical and sensible country so I guessed there would be less religous people

There is no way those figures for the UK are accurate. I literately don't know anybody that goes to church or considers themselves christian.

According to the CIA World Factbook, 3-4% of China's population is Christian, which would put the number of Christians at somewhere between about 40,000,000 and 53,500,000. So the PRC may actually belong on this list.

The source appears to be a list on a Wikipedia article which itself is mostly unsourced - it might be a good idea to use a better source. For those complaining about the presence of the UK, for some reason there seems to be a strong cultural attachment to Christianity here among people who are otherwise non-religious. I know people who consider themselves Christians despite having no belief in a god and even in some cases strongly disapproving of Christianity. If the figure is from the census, it will probably include these people.

@bluelicorice is right. I just figured the United States wasn't on the list when typing in "United States" didn't work.

@martex I know loads! :D The UK number definitely includes a lot of people who don't practice religion, these people are mostly not atheist or agnostic though, just not religious.

@jackmerlin: so now Christians aren't capable of reasoning? How 'bout you don't senselessly criticize the world's largets "belief system?" (as atheists say)

As someone said, the quiz doesn't accept when you type "united states" instead of "usa". You should really change that, cause that way a lot of people isn't going to do all the answers.
