Most of these are just when the sports were formalized in the UK, not when they were invented outside of the British Isles, for example the first organised ice hockey game was played in Canada, the first ice hockey club was formed in 1877 in Montreal.
As an aside, basketball was invented by a Canadian, but in Massachusetts rather than Canada, and on the subject of things invented in Britain, the word 'soccer' is credited to former English national team captain Charles Wreford-Brown, I don't know why the British today want to distance themselves from their own word. |
