| @feste26: I don't think it is a matter of Owen being forgotten, just a matter of anyone under the age of 50-60 never having heard much about him to begin with, with the probable exception of longtime Giants fans. I have no memory of the coaching careers of Lombardi, Noll, Landry, Grant, or Stram, but they are all on the lists of winning and/or losing coaches in the Super Bowl, which are relatively short lists and I can name just about everyone on them. There are only 4 guys on here who never coached in a Super Bowl. Paul Brown and Curly Lambeau both have stadiums named for them, and George Halas is pretty well known as one of the pioneers of the league, the former all-time wins leader, and has the NFC Championship trophy named for him. That leaves Owen, who came well before the Super Bowl era, and doesn't have any real significance to NFL fans under the age of 50, at least that I'm aware of. If there are any Giants fans in their 20s or 30s reading this, is Owen well-known to you? |
