	you gotta be careful when you check off "accept last words only as answers". In this case it means that ripken doesnt work. neither does ripken jr, only jr works since it is technically the last word. Same for Red Wings. If you want to get it right, you ve gotta type Wings. You probably wanna change it so red wings, ripken, etc are acceptable answers too.

	Nover220: Add the word "pitched" next to strikeouts, i know it sounds silly but some people might think a batter had 20 strikeouts in a game. :D _______________________________ Anybody who thinks that doesn't deserve to get the question right

	The clue is fine, but not because Sammy never held the record. Sammy never "passed Maris for the record." When he passed Maris, he was still in second all-time. When he gained the record, he passed McGwire.

	The actual strikeout record belongs to Tom Cheney, who had 21 Ks in an extra-inning game. If MLB counts records set in 162-game seasons, then records set in extra-inning games should count just as if they were 9-inning games. Sure, Tom Cheney had an advantage of playing in extra innings, but Maris, Sosa, and McGwire had an advantage of playing in extra games (162 games, compared to 154 in Babe Ruth's time). It's inconsistent of MLB to push Cheney's record aside like they do.

	@Zachary, actually the Tennessee Volunteers beat Florida State, but that's irrelevant as that game took place in 1999. This quiz is going by calendar date, and the Rose and Orange Bowls that Michigan and Nebraska won took place on January 1st, and 2nd, 1998, hence their inclusion in this quiz.

	I knew I was gonna get that from someone. Growing up in an area with NO professional teams near you, I picked my teams when I was 6 and have stayed with them ever since. Also, The Islanders haven't won a title since 83 and haven't been good for nearly 20 years. The Celtics are finally doing something after 20 years. Dallas hasn't won a playoff game since '96. And the Dodgers haven't won since '88 and are just finally getting good. I hate when I have to defend this. And I lost any respect I have as a man a long time ago.

	Good quiz, BigWilly! One suggestion/correction: Curling also "debuted" as a winter olympic sport in 1998. It had been played in 1924, but that was only retroactively ruled as an official olympic competition (vs. a demonstration competition) in 2006.
