If I remember correctly, no.2 received a slave as a gift from a relative, but freed him soon after. I THINK it was him. Interesting quiz.

I wonder where Martin Van Buren went wrong; I though the most of the old New York Dutch landowners had given up slavery, and he wasn't even patroon-level Dutch aristocracy who were rich enough for slaves.

A fascinating quiz, and the source material makes for an interesting read as well, particularly the quotes of the Presidents themselves as to their views on slavery.

In his will, Thaddeus Kosciusko, a Polish revolutionary who helped train the troops in the Continental Army, gave his property in America to Thomas Jefferson to sell and then use the money to buy and free slaves. Jefferson refused and had the Supreme Court declare the will unconstitutional.

Buchanan also owned two slaves temporarily. He bought them from a relative and then immediately released them.
