You forgot Cyprus and Myanmar. Technically "y" is a consonant so they should count too.

Kyrgyzstan, too.

In Cyprus and Myanmar, the Y would be a vowel in those names.

And syria. I'm not buying all this "a y can be a vowel" nonsense :-)

Good quiz, but could you please add some more time? Even though it is relatively few countries, you still have to scan the whole world :)

Y is not a vowel in Syria or Kyrgyzstan. In Myanmar it is. It depends on the sound. The Gambia would be silly to accept since you would also havae to take The United States and The United Kingdom.

I think edderson's got it the wrong way round: Y is pronounced as a vowel in Syria and Kyrgyzstan. According to Wikipedia, the BBC recommend that the "y" in Myanmar should be pronounced as a consonant like in "yes" or "yam" (/j/ in IPA).

I agree with pottedstu. Myanmar should be in but not the others.

Nice idea, it is so refreshing to see a quizmaker who understands that y can be a vowel. rkavin makes a good point about The Gambia though, as it is in fact the proper common name of the country and a completely different case than the United States or others, thus it would be nice to at least have it as a bonus.

Whilst Y can apparently be a vowel in the US, it is not a vowel in the UK.

To be fair, Y is a vowel in Welsh, so it can be a vowel in the UK.

Maybe make the Y answers bonuses to reflect that Y is never counted as a vowel in the UK?
