Even crazier is that Barry Sanders did that in fewer games than players currently play. I think it was 11, while Kevin Smith nearly broke his record in 13-14 games.

Sanders in 1988 is arguably the greatest season any athlete has ever had in any sport. 3200 all purpose yards, 39 touchdowns -- and, as Clint says, all in 11 games. Just nuts.

Edgerrin, Emmitt, Jamal, Terrell, they didn't even make the list but still helped me get points. That's the sign of a great running back.

It's amazing that both JJ Arrington and Kevin Smith are already out of the NFL. It makes you appreciate the guys who can physically survive for so many years at running back.

@pirate6711- Donald Brown will likely join those two if he doesn't finally do something this year.

@pirate6711- there is a sporcle quiz somewhere about players who average 30 or more carries per game, although it may just be for the NFL, but regardless, there's a reason that Earl Campbell is the only one on that quiz more than twice that regardless of level, there are only so many hits you can take.

Interesting that the all-time leading rusher Ron Dayne is nowhere to be seen.

Funny how sometimes on quizzes on these you type in names without even bothering to look at the schools that are listed.

Just for fun I typed "White guy" for the stanford running back. Got Lorenzo White as a result!

What a joke that Troy Davis never won the Heisman. If you're putting up 2000+ yards (TWICE!) behind an Iowa State line, you are by definition the best player in college football. By comparison, Eddie George did a lot less with a lot more.

Wow. This quiz was a lot tougher than I expected it to have been. Some really lesser-known names on that list.
