I am still looking for more to add to this quiz.. any suggestions would be helpful... thanks
Jun 14th, 2010 at 14:52 GMT
the Columbia clue didn't work when i tried to type it in. also, the answers for the baseball teams require typing in "New York," the team names alone won't work. the Islanders aren't in NYC. if you include them, you should include the Nets and Devils too, they are closer to Manhattan than the Islanders are. you could also add Newark airport, and accept LGA for LaGuardia. so far as adding more stuff, maybe stadium names, notable suburbs, longest bridge, and notable streets. pretty decent all around though.

you should accept just Verrazano because no one ever calls it the Verrazano-Narrows

added a few more things and fixed a few answers... let me know of anything else.. thanks

Yes, you need to be more lenient with the answers you accept. otherwise good
Jun 14th, 2010 at 17:22 GMT
MLB Teram for Mets? you can also add things like which president was inaugurated here? or something about Alexander Hamilton being buried there maybe
Jun 14th, 2010 at 20:45 GMT
You could add the Three Subway systems (IRT, BMT, IND),

pretty sure i typed 'grand central' unless i mistyped - did we need to type 'grand central terminal'? if so, change it!

I'm ok with counting the Giants and Jets, but if you take tulo2's suggestion and remove them, you would also need to remove the Statue of LIberty. Ellis Island, which isn't on the quiz, is in NYC waters. I think a good idea would be to include all the small islands next to the boroughs - Roosevelt, Randall's, Ward's, Governor's, Rikers, and there may be a few other really small ones.

If you're going to accept the Jets and Giants as NY teams, you need to accept EWR as a NY airport.
Jun 15th, 2010 at 02:18 GMT
Yeah, why are are New Jersey Giants and New Jersey Jets on a New York City quiz? Oh wait.... I like the questions but it's a little Manhattan centric. Maybe you could something about the World's Fairs, Coney Island, Bronx Zoo, or... what ever they have on Staten Island.

May be accept "NY Times", otherwise I thought it was a good quiz.
Jun 15th, 2010 at 02:44 GMT
accept MSG, WSJ, NYT

NHL team - Rangers; MLS Team - Red Bulls.

I missed the Yankees...something must be wrong with me.

You could ask for the major river crossings, and maybe the three divisions of the subway and the three major commuter railroads into the city.
Oct 31st, 2010 at 04:30 GMT
You should accept commonly used abbreviations like GW for the George Washington Bridge, MSG for Madison Square Garden, ESB for Empire State Building, and GCT for Grand Central Terminal

Why are the Jets and Giants included but not the Islanders?
Dec 23rd, 2010 at 07:14 GMT
Just the inconsistency that you're very strict about staying within the city limits by not accepting Newark airport the New York Islanders, but you accept the Giants and Jets who both play outside the city limits. Either do the metro area or do the city limits, don't switch back and forth.

I would say include Giants, Jets, and Islanders since their official names are New York, but dont include the Meadowlands Stadium (which no longer exists anyway) because it is not located in New York. Some other ideas are something about the Apollo Theater, Bronx Zoo, New York Metropolitan Opera, some of the museums, MTA, Coney Island

accept msg for madison square garden, and you're gonna have to edit this in a couple months due to the new WTC 1
Mar 13th, 2011 at 04:22 GMT
you should accept gwb for george washington bridge
Mar 14th, 2011 at 05:52 GMT
Giants and Jets are included because they are considered NY teams (I'm from Jersey... East Rutherford in fact, and I hate it as well).. A good idea would be Transit systems to and in NY.. MTA, LIRR, Metro North, NJT, PATH. The Tunnels (Holland and Lincoln), the brooklyn bridge, Port Authority and Penn Station.
May 18th, 2011 at 21:49 GMT
It would be fun if you added a bonus answer for Idlewild (original name of JFK airport).

Enjoyed the quiz. Love NY. There could be so much more here. I was so proud of myself for typing in Shea Stadium at the very last second only to realize that the Mets play at Citi Field. Oops...
Jun 4th, 2011 at 05:02 GMT
If you're letting the Jets and Giants be called New York teams, you have to add the Islanders too.
Jun 21st, 2011 at 19:51 GMT
Good quiz. Just add the islanders, include the new meadowlands stadium as a bonus answer (it is in NJ, not NY), and maybe add something from the outer boroughs, like Coney Island or something involving tunnels, like the Lincoln or Holland tunnels.
Feb 17th, 2012 at 18:01 GMT
I agree that it is a great start, but given the size and fame/notoriety of New york, I think you could easily increase this quiz to 100 answers, including some of the questions added above, and others such as the name of the Mayors mansion, former MLB teams and stadiums, more bridges, islands, counties, etc.

Apr 15th, 2013 at 14:01 GMT
The name of the Giants / Jets stadium is MetLife. Also, add the Islanders and the Nets (with the respective arenas).
May 31st, 2013 at 00:11 GMT
One nitpick: the East River isn't technically a river, but a tidal inlet (it's salt water). You could change it to "major body of water" to be more accurate, or accept a different answer such as the Bronx River (which is actually a freshwater river).
