No bonus answer for Sadaharu Oh? I know he never played for an American team, but it would be fun to have a 2-letter last name in here.

For the five-letter answer, you misspelled "Aaron". ;)

Even with Darryl Strawberry's picture as the game icon, he still only gets guessed 20% of the time.

I actually noticed it was Strawberry; apparently that exited my mind in about 2 seconds.

Two more possible bonuses: Mark Grudzielanek (12 letters, 90 HR) and Todd Hollandsworth (13 letters, 98 HR).

great quiz... the only thing i'd change is making Ken Griffey "Ken Griffey Jr." and accepting the word "griffey," only because as it stands now it looks like junior's dad is the one who hit all those jacks

Why does Bonds have to have the same number of letters as Aaron?

I actually typed "Aaron" three times and was wondering how it was possible he wasn't on the list. It took me a while to get the right answer.

@strags11: Bonds' first name is Barry, not Aaron. (I wish there was a font for sarcasm b/c I know some people are going to attack this comment.)

@sdogood30...you really must learn to count to 10. Sheffield has 9 letters. S(1)-h(2)-e(3)-f(4)-f(5)-i(6)-e(7)-l(8)-d(9). Strawberry has 10 letters. S(1)-t(2)-r(3)-a(4)-w(5)-b(6)-e(7)-r(8)-r(9)-y(10).

Maybe some hint on the number of HRs would help, like 300-400, etc. It'd be nice to know whether to think through the usual suspects at 500+ or if you have to go deeper for a letter. Even 500+ or 500- would be a nice hint.

I like the twist on the all time home run type of quiz. And of course, the inevitable steroid era debate... The comment by strags11 was VERY funny.

What's very interesting is that 3 through 6 follow the pattern for the first names/nicknames as well.

I'm not a Bonds fan, but the simple fact is that the stuff he was accused of taking (hasn't tested positive) was LEGAL at the time. Like it or not, his numbers stand. This isn't the first generation to take PEDs. Guys were popping amphetamines to get an extra burst of energy all through the 60s, 70s and 80s.
