Not that this is a bad quiz, but I think it's pretty tacky when the editor chooses his own quiz as the "Editor's Pick".

I agree puckett86, especially when it's not totally accurate. And I kind of wonder how many times it was actually played before being "chosen" as an editor's choice.

If you disqualify the pitchers who used steroids, you can make this a really short quiz.

Interesting that you say "someday Tampa" when it could very well be this year with the way David Price is pitching.

Notice he didn't say "Someday, Colorado Rockies" because it's almost a given that Ubaldo Jimenez is going to be on this list at the end of this season.

The son of the Phillies' last Cy Young winner was drafted in this years MLB draft earlier this week. I think I guessed every Orioles pitcher of the early eighties except Steve Stone.

It's amazing to me that the Reds are not on this list. The Rangers aren't, either, and they've been around for 50 years, but they've also never been all that good. The Reds are a different story. It's an awfully big award for a team like Cincinnati to have never won.

I believe Willie Hernandez was also AL MVP in 1984 as Detroit dominated.

The Reds haven't really had any ace pitchers in the Cy Young era. I know Pete Schourek came close in '95, and I assume Tom Seaver got some votes in his day, but really, I am having trouble thinking of any good Reds pitchers in the past 50 or so years. They were always about the offense

Gaaaah, I spelled Vuckovich as Vukovich, and almost guessed Bedrosian just as a flyer....those are the two I missed.

@Deej, just off the top of my head, Jose Rijo and Danny Jackson had some good seasons in the early 90s.

Vuckovich and Bedrosian won their Cys in years when no starters really stood out. Vuckovich had a spiffy 18-6 record, but an average ERA and a brutal WHIP. Bedrosian saved 40 games for a mediocre team, but had an unremarkable ERA for a closer.

@Deej -- Seaver is really the only HOF pitcher the Reds have had that I can think of, but they still had plenty of pitching on their great teams. Just had some bad luck in terms of voting... Tom Seaver goes 14-2 in 1981 -- the same year as Fernando Valenzuela breaks in and takes the NL by storm. Danny Jackson wins 23 games in 1988 -- the same year Orel Hershiser sets a record for consecutive scoreless innings. Don Gullett has the talent to win for the great teams of '75 and '76, but only pitches a total of 45 games in those seasons...Just amazed that this award has avoided them all this time.

The reds have no Cy Young winners because they have historically been a pitching POOR franchise. Even in the days of the Big Red Machine they had noodle arm pitchers that could oly go 7 like Billingham, Nolan and Merritt who won 20 with a 4.04 ERA, unheard of back in the 70s. Remember, Sparly Anderson was the inventor of the bullpen concept, there was a reason for that!

@alleycat, isnt it scarier to think about how the mets franchise has NEVER had an mvp winner? i kept trying to spell vuckovich without the "c" but i finally got it right. got them all.

The Marlins could be up on the list soon with the way Josh Johnson is going right now (on my fantasy team!)
