| @charolastra The placement in the regions isn't based solely on travelling distance. It is for the number one seeds, but a lot of factors go into it for the rest. For example, the number one overall seed is Ohio State and they got placed in the East (Newark) because that was the closest for them. That would be a closer distance for UConn, and part of the committee's job is to protect the number one seeds and give them advantages over the lower seeded teams. If UConn and OSU got matched up later on, it would be more like a road game for OSU than UConn. And since Washington is only a 7 seed, the committee doesn't really take any of their interests into account. Sorry for the long response, but basically a lot more goes into it than playing where is closest to you. |
