The more accepted spelling is "Hanukkah" with two Ks, not two Ns.

Fun game! Definitely some hard ones, and not a lot of extra time to think on the ones you dont know quickly, so it is very difficult to get them all on the first try! Good work!

For tentsim, I'm guilty of trying "Smitten"

Indeed, there are a lot of ways to spell Hanukkah, but that's not one.

Probably shouldn't let people answer out of order and use words that overlap, like "snow" and "snowman" & "ice" and "ice skating".

Or at least bring the shorter words first so you do not get out of synch while panicking due to the short time limit.

So I was thinking, 'what the hell are k*****a and d*****l?', but sporcle has introduced me to these two new words and encouraged me to look them up. So now I know. And a happy winter season, however you celebrate it, to everyone else who plays this game!

I usually shy away from such comments cos I know their usual fate, but I don't think there was quite enough time for this. An extra minute would have been welcome.

definitely more time!! and mrsspader -- just out of curiosity, where you from?? I know where I am its very multicultural, and i grew up with friends that celebrated both holidays... guessing you must be from a less diverse area

Great hodge podge of words...it kept me guessing. Each word has to be approached with an open mind because there's such a wide variety.

Dreidel? Is this a word?
Dec 21st, 2011 at 00:12 GMT
I actually kinda liked the time limit. I didn't finish on time, but I feel that the rush to try and figure out which words you're going to concentrate on figuring out is fun.

Festivus should be on here. It is a great holiday. "Hanukkah" is a common spelling for the holiday. A dreidel is a spinning top used on Hanukkah for enjoyment.

Thanks for fixing Hanukkah. (For anyone reading my comment afterward, it was "Hannukah" when published.)

My first thought for OCTAVANI was Octavian (who has a tangential connection to the Christmas story, at least according to Luke 2:1)....
Dec 22nd, 2011 at 14:26 GMT
I agree that that's the way to spell Hanukkah, but a lot of people call it chanukkah, or chanukah, and others, so I think you shouldn't put hanukkah on there because of all the confusion.

coat and jacket are kind-of the same thing
Apr 16th, 2012 at 21:17 GMT
January? People don't know which month Christmas is in, huh?
May 30th, 2012 at 23:16 GMT
Good quiz, but some of these aren't "winter words" for those in the southern hemisphere ... ;)
