You're right--I excluded non-letters categories because the amount of non-fiction awards is so vast and, in my opinion, outside the range of "literature."
So, Chomsky...I've kept his name as an answer but removed it from the display. Certainly you are right, he's not in the vanguard but due to his focus on the role of language in the most basic aspects of culture, I felt he informed (or smashed) the work of others who would definitely count (those you mentioned, de Saussure, Piaget, etc). |
