So I hope you enjoy this quiz. As an exchange student to Germany in highschool, I believe that studying in another country is one of the coolest things you can do. Check out another one of my quizzes which is the opposite of this one. Its about which countries have students come to the US. Here's the link: http://www.sporcle.com/games/Austerlitz/international_students

And also, before someone else makes the joke: "Yes, I have studied abroad...or two." It had to be done.

I'm stunned Canada didn't make the list.

^That was my initial reaction. But then again, most people probably want to go somewhere a bit more foreign. Canada and the US are just too close and too similar. Going to Canada isn't much different than going to a different region of America...other than Quebec of course.

This quiz is basically "Name all the large tourist countries that aren't in the third world" - following that getting less than 20/25 is impossible ;-)

I lowered the time limit to three minutes to make it a bit more of a challenge. Most people are getting perfects or near perfects since, admittedly, the countries on this list aren't too hard to guess.

I would tend to think that if an American wanted to go to a Canadian university, they could just apply.

I think this is one of those things where the powers that be have decided that Canada doesn't quite count as "foreign". They do the same often with things like box office receipts of movies, etc.

Great quiz, 12/15. They were all really obvious countries though, I kinda had a brainfart :/

I'm surprised to see Costa Rica so high on the list; but then again, lower tuition rates in a very nice temperate climate does sound pretty inviting.

As a college student myself, I'd actually be scared of going to the Netherlands, for the same reasons everybody assumes college kids would want to go there; Probably the same reason why Canada is No. 1 on MY list of study abroad options...

I'm kind of surprised Italy beats out both Spain and France, since as far as I'm aware Italian isn't offered in most high schools. On the other hand, I did all right when I spent two weeks there during my study abroad in Paris.

I'm going to second MasterNachosII; Canada is way higher on my list than most of these places, and I know a few other students itching to go as well. I think it'd probably be on the list if it was offered as a real 'study abroad' option.

When students want to experience another culture, Canada probably isn't the first country that jumps to mind. Especially for northern states.

As mentioned, Canada isn't really "foreign" enough to need a special international exchange program. If you want to go to a Canadian school, you can just apply normally. And there certainly are a lot...it seems like half the people I went to university with were American.

A bit surprised New Zealand isn't there. And @MrMN, very true on that. For the most part, Seattle and Vancouver are indistinguishable culturally to my experience visiting up there often. Never even crossed my mind to try Canada on the quiz.

As a few people have mentioned, there is no way more US students are going to Peru, Denmark and Ecuador than Canada. For whatever reason, Canada must not be considered a 'foreign' country for the purposes of this list.

I understand that the source doesn't list Canada, but if they're going to include Mexico as "abroad", then Canada should also be considered.

Yeah, I have to add to the chorus about Canada not being on there. There are a lot of top notch Canadian universities, and tuition is typically cheaper. Very odd list.

I know a lot of countries are on this list because the parents or grandparents came from those countries. But I'm still surprised Poland, Switzerland, Norway and Sweden are not on this list, as they all have really good universities. I guess a lot of those students where picking the destination themselves.

There's a difference between studying in a foreign country (in your own capacity) and being part of a study abroad program at your domestic university. For the latter, the quality of the foreign university doesn't really matter, just the reputation of the weather and culture, since it's credits at your home school that you're getting.

The statistics need some time element. Are they are for a one-year period? Which period? Or a ten-year average or something else?
