| In answer to biggers, Abingdon was the original county town of Berkshire, but was superceded by Reading (so surely this should be an acceptable answer also?), the same also applies to Lancashire, where Lancaster was superceded by Preston. Abingdon became part of Oxfordshire when the county boundaries were changed in the 70s.
Middlesex's proximity to London means that it doesn't have a single county town, but Brentford, New Brentford, Clerkenwell Green, City of London and Westminster could all be feasible answers. |
