Of course, with a quiz of this magnitude, I'm bound to miss some of your favorites, so if you can't find them, feel free to comment with your suggestion. While I imagine there are a few world music fans out there, I tried to limit this to English-language musicians only (sorry Luciano Pavarotti fans!). However, instrumentalists like Kenny G can be accounted for.
A minimum of 3 picks would be nice, and try to keep it to 10 at a maximum. Have fun with this Ultimate Sporcle Music poll!

And just to clarify: Once you pick your favorites, you can go straight to "Give Up". This is one of the few quizzes where there's no shame in that!

Not much in the indie/folk genre, like Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Explosions in the Sky. Great ide!

Apr 16th, 2012 at 05:27 GMT
I'd love to see some N.E.R.D., STP, Ben Folds, Zero 7, Black Crowes, and others. But that's just because I'm selfish. Solid idea, huge undertaking, good for you!
Apr 16th, 2012 at 06:17 GMT
You should add the Pixies.
Apr 16th, 2012 at 07:26 GMT
@b_n, which bands would you like me to add? no genre is off-limits!
As to all the other suggestions, thank you, I'll add them in shortly. Keep them coming!
Apr 16th, 2012 at 09:55 GMT
Could you add They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies, Magnetic Fields, The Gaslight Anthem and Morrissey?
Apr 16th, 2012 at 11:43 GMT
Would like to see Kraftwerk and maybe Soft Cell in there, but a pretty decent range of artists in there.
Apr 16th, 2012 at 13:55 GMT
Not sure how I missed Kraftwerk and Morissey, but as I mentioned, I was bound to miss some obvious choices, heh. All your suggestions will be added shortly.

Maybe add Dream Theater, they have a large following
Apr 16th, 2012 at 17:07 GMT
Boston!!! OK, I was born about 30 years too late, but I can't get enough of their stuff. Also, some throwback bands are really good, too (The Darkness comes to mind).

Ramones, Slayer, Megadeth
Apr 16th, 2012 at 20:20 GMT
Kaiser Chiefs? Wolfmother? Editors?
Apr 16th, 2012 at 21:12 GMT
All those will be added shortly. I don't feel good about missing James Brown, but I got you

So far, the top 10 Favorite Sporcle MusiciansTM are:
3.Guns n' Roses
Let's see if that changes up a bit, but so far it looks legit. Thanks for the nice reception this has gotten so far. Any suggestions to make this poll better?
Apr 17th, 2012 at 02:31 GMT
Manic Street Preachers!
Apr 17th, 2012 at 03:35 GMT
For the country fans out there, perhaps some combination of Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney and/or Tim McGraw? They are big enough, with long enough careers, to warrant some love (especially since you include artists like Taylor Swift and Shania Twain). I do appreciate the inclusion of Alabama, Strait and Brooks, however. And while the inclusion of Stevie Ray was great for us blues fans, B.B. King probably merits a spot as well. Terrific quiz.

@SleapeeHed, mellish: If you've noticed, those who have suggested have kept it to the 3-10 I was asking for. If you tell me which of those are YOUR actual favorites, I am willing to add them. However, this isn't meant to cover every popular artist in existence.
Apr 18th, 2012 at 03:55 GMT

Apr 18th, 2012 at 04:40 GMT

Apr 19th, 2012 at 21:52 GMT
Probably not that popular of a choice, but I would have voted for Rise Against if they were there. Also, everyone should vote for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, since they are pretty much the best
Apr 19th, 2012 at 21:54 GMT
Oh and of Montreal is a pretty sweet band also
