This quiz shows how much of a collapse the Red Sox had.

Though WAR has a million problems as a statistic, not the least of which being that there are two different versions propagated by different websites (Fangraphs vs. BaseballReference) I won't hold that against your quiz, which is very nice

^ I agree great quiz, but as a Jays fan its tough to see the credibilty in the WAR stat when Brandon Morrow has a higher WAR than Ricky Romero.

Interesting how FanGraphs has Ellsbury at 9.4, but Baseball-Reference has him at 7.2. Why do they have any differential? What factor changes?

Well therein lies the #1 problem with WAR: no one knows how it's calculated. I understand OPS. I understand WHIP. But WAR? It's arcane.

Dark: Many people know how WAR is calculated. It is not a secret. If you want to learn, here's a starting point: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/misc/war/ Fangraphs' glossary also defines all the individual components of WAR.

Victor Martinez shouldn't be listed as a Catcher. He played 112 games at DH and only 26 at Catcher.

@Brett11: Fangraphs and Baseballreference have different calculations of WAR. @DarkPhalanx: Yes, we do know how it's calculated, again, there are just multiple calculations.

The major difference is that baseballreference (Rally) WAR is based on TZ (Total Zone) compared to fangraphs being based on UZR. Hopefully that clears things up.
