*Years listed are years of the championship season. *NHL losing seasons are defined as more regular season losses than wins. Ties and overtime losses are not included in the calculation.

I'm not quite set on the format for this one. I don't like how easy it is to just type in the names of whatever franchises you can think of, but I also think it would be too hard to have to name the year. If I gave you the year of either the championship or the losing season, then it just becomes a "Name The Champions" quiz, which is not something I want. Any suggestions?

Also, the reason I don't accept "Washington Bullets" or "Washington Wizards" for "Baltimore Bullets" is that the Bullets team that won the title in 1948 was a separate franchise from the current Wizards. The confusing part is that in the early 60's the current franchise was known as the Baltimore Bullets. It's like the Ottawa Senators situation, if that helps.

This is a cool idea, but I'm afraid that Sporcle just can't handle it and have it be a particularly good quiz. Sporcle's fault, not yours.

the year after the ravens won the super bowl, they went 10-6 and lost to pittsburgh in the divisional round.

@Nick88 - Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I must have been looking at the year after that, when they went 7-9.

I wish you had included pre-Super Bowl NFL teams. If you are going to research other sports into the dark ages, why not football?

Blackhawks in one word. Good quiz though!

Not in 1938 it wasnt. They didnt merge it into one word until sometime in the mid-80s. And yeah, good quiz, though Im not sure theres much you can do to avoid what youre trying to avoid.

Unbelievable that the Yankees have never had a losing season after winning 28 World Series championships. As much as I hate them, that's a very respectable stat.

cocky- The other sports all were essentially the same league. While teams were added and contracted at points in time, none of the other leagues merged and changed the name of their championship like the NFL did.

Not in 1938. They didn't change it into one word until the 1985-86 season.

If you gave the record and year for the post championship team and made people guess in order that could be good, or take a minute or two off as itis now, because you can just randomly guess teams and get them all and thanks for making Black Hawks two words as it should be for that team.

This is an interesting idea, unfortunately as is it has become a name the franchise quiz. I think Etheridge's thinking is along the lines of what would make it better, make it an answer in order format and give some other clue, perhaps the team they defeated for the championship, though that doesn't feel quite right or sufficient either...
