	was stuck with Israel.. the name Jaffa struck me.. someone had commented in the "apples and oranges" quiz that israel was famous for oranges.. that helped.. yipee

	I was thrilled to get them all, but it might be better if answers had to be named in order. That way you could avoid what it looks like I and several others did toward the end- naming (mostly) European countries :)

	Yeah that might make more sense for a published quiz...I did have it set to forced order for awhile, but it seemed to be played far less often that way, before it was published. Too bad it wasn't an editor pick first, then I could have had more feedback about forced order, and the time.

	Sweden did organize crusades, but not to the Holy Land. They were instead aimed at the pagans inwhat is now Finland, Russia and the Baltic countries. The Northern Crusades are, however, much less well known.

	That's right, I wasn't thinking of those. In that case, there would also be crusaders from the Baltic countries and maybe Russia.

	@deadtotheworld: It says, "which modern country", not which country at the time of the Crusades. I think it would make for a more interesting quiz though if it used only the old country names. It would make guessing by European countries a lot harder.

	deadtotheworld and Bataar, I did consider doing that (here or in a new quiz), but where would you draw the line? If you take "France" or "Holy Roman Empire" to be proper countries, then there wouldn't be many other answers; but if they are considered collections of independent states, then there would be hundreds of possible answers. But if people think guessing medieval states would be fun (I certainly would!), I could make one of those too.

	Shouldn't the Vatican be on here, at least as a bonus answer? I don't have a source, but surely at least one priest was sent to the Holy Land at that time, since the Pope instigated the conflict.

	I mentioned this in the archived comments - the Vatican has been a state only since 1929, and it is a very tiny part of Rome. In the Middle Ages the Popes usually lived in the Lateran Palace, or other places in the Papal States in Italy (they often had to move around during disputes with the Holy Roman Emperor or with antipopes), or in Avignon in France.

	Good Quiz, have a question, when you say quote "First and Fifth Crusades; most crusaders were French" are you suggesting that France only fought in the 1st and the 5th crusade? If I ask that it's because I recall from a history class that Louis IX of France "Saint Louis" died during the eigth crusade after fighting in the seventh...

	I meant to link particular crusades with the people I gave as examples (so, 1st for Raymond, 5th for John). I chose those two randomly, but I could have picked from hundreds of other French crusaders (Louis IX, as you say, also Louis VII and Philip II led the second and third crusades).

	I'd rather see a "mideval polities" version, although you'd need the caveat "the polity desired is the one the listed figures would have been loyal to".

	Surprised to find Romania on the list. Nicopolis was an "official" (papal sanctioned) crusade, although one often forgotten.
