I appreciate the joke, but #7 could technically be a lot of other flags as well. Just sayin'...

Flagments, if you will. Fun quiz. I agree with thedpr, you are kind of opening up a can of worms with 7.

Fantastic quiz! Some of them are a real tease! I'd love to see a sequel with some well-known flags that are hard to recognise from the fragment given.

Oh dear. I saw the stars and stripes and automatically typed Liberia before checking the clue. Too much Sporcling for me today. Loved number 7. Never even crossed my mind that it could be anything other than Libya.

@h4ydn Nope it can't be Chile. The Chilean flag has only 2 stripes, a white and a red, while you can clearly see 3 stripes in the clue.

I can't believe I typed in every country I could think of that may have somewhat modelled their flag on the US flag. Every country except the right one...

caramba - my girlfriend named a remarkable number of former British colonies for #3 before she came around to the original, so you're not alone.

And on 7 - I understand the issue, but the basic thought process should be that while, of course, it could be any number of countries, the only reason that particular fragment would have been chosen is if there was no other choice.

Croatia was a pain. No. 1 rule for national flags is keep them simple so they can be seen at a distance and anyone can make one (e.g. schoolchildren and soldiers or sailors in distress).

i think i've arrived at an important milestone: i knew which flag was kyrgyzstan's, no guessing around randomly. this feels very momentous. (true, it's fresh in my mind 'cause i saw it in yesterday's 1990 image quiz, but still...)

While 7 is technically still correct, it's now a bit more on par with every other green inclusive flag.

@shakescene The flag is very recognizable at a distance, zoomed in is when you get to see all the details.

#7 can only be one country if you think about it. The picture has to provide enough information to differentiate the correct answer from other countries.

TQ: Their point is that Libya has a new (or rather, old) flag. That is, of course, if you recognize the NTC as the Libyan government, which the majority of countries now does. Not that Sporcle always follows the majority of countries (see Palestine, Taiwan), but I think it will in this case :)

REEEEEAAALLLY really not easy. I genuinely missed USA, I was thinking of south american countries and didn't put the fact that there was a white star on blue background with red and white stripes together with my knowledge of what the American flag looks like. I apologise to all the 300-odd million Americans and I guarantee I will not make such an error of judgment again.

I never thought a flag had pink in it, but it appears that Mexico does.
