| @professor88: Jerusalem can be the capital of Israel because they have so declared it to be and following the reunification (or occupation depending on your point of view) that took place as a result of the 1967 War, Israel has controlled the city including what used to be called East Jerusalem prior to annexation. All branches of the Israeli government are located in Jerusalem, including the Knesset, the residences of the Prime Minister and President, and the Supreme Court. Yes, there is a part of Jerusalem that is controlled by UNTSO, namely Government House, which is where UNTSO maintains its headquarters. It's not clear to me what if anything else in Jerusalem is "administered" by the UN. |
