| The US codes are relatively transparent (at least both letters are included in the state name, e.g. MiNnesota, MissOuri, MonTana, etc.) That's because the number of states isn't too high. But Italy had historically around 90 provinces and they go on creating new ones (there must be some 110 today). When they had to assign a code to the new province of Crotone, CR, CO, CT, CN and CE were already taken. So the code for Crotone is KR. If you see KR in an Italian postal address, don't think "There must be some error here. How can an Italian province begin with K?" |
