Well researched & interesting. Style suggestion: Change Number of Columns to 1 Column with 30%/30%/40% split. More of the answers will stay on screen without scrolling.

great quiz! It had me so confused as to who was where and when. I was typing any name I could think of and finally got 100% after two tries.

This is for two teams sharing a name at the same time, not for two teams that had a same name but played in different eras.

2 other pairs you could add: Washington Nationals MLB-current and Syracuse Nationals NBA 1950's; Washington Capitols NBA (Charter Member) and Washington Capitals NHL Current. (Note slight spelling difference Capitols v. Capitals --not exactly the same.)

I love this quiz! One thing, though: The Washington Redskins played their first season as the Boston Braves in 1932, and the MLB Braves were obviously around at the same time (also in Boston).

maybe a bonus for the Houston Colt .45s and the Baltimore Colts. The Houston team was known informally (at least on some baseball cards) as the Colts.

The Denver Nuggets were the Denver Rockets (in the old ABA) but changed their name when the NBA and ABA merged since Houston already was the Rockets.

Thank god the Cincinnati Royals changed their name when they moved to Kansas City. Otherwise we would have had two teams called the Kansas City Royals, which would cause Chris Berman to call them the "Kansas City Baseball Royals" all the freaking time. It's like he still does with the "New York Football Giants" decades after the confusion ended.

Not technically Big 4 but what is this quiz without the Ottawa Rough Riders and Saskatchewan Roughriders? CFL 1954-1996, same nickname, same league! The Roughriders and Rough Riders also played each other in the Grey Cup final in 1951, 1966, 1969 and 1976.

Pemster, I read somewhere that the Pittsburgh baseball team developed a reputation for successfully raiding other teams of their star players, so other franchises and their fans began referring to them as "pirates". The Pittsburgh players and fans took that as a point of pride and adopted the name. (Back then, team nicknames were not official and much more changeable). I assume the football team liked the sound and tradition of the name and simply borrowed it for themselves.

@HokieRebel: The Dallas Texans were an AFL franchise. They're now known as the Kansas City Chiefs. The NHL team in Dallas is the Stars.

There was an NHL team called the Rockies--the Colorado Rockies--they just didn't exist at the same time as the MLB Rockies.

The third column served to extend my confusion over the American sports franchise system. I just don't understand how there isn't more protest at a team being moved hundreds of miles away to a completely different city with different fans. It doesn't exactly encourage brand loyalty. The only time anything similar has happened in the UK to my knowledge - Wimbledon moving to Milton Keynes - there was a complete furore over it, and that was only about 60 miles...

The "Where they are now" column with the St. Louis and Cleveland Browns should say that the Cleveland Browns became the Baltimore Ravens, but a new team also called the Cleveland Browns was later created.

@cmkeller: The Browns technically didn't move to Baltimore. The franchise was inactive for the 1996-1998 seasons after which it was reactivated for the 1999 season. The history (including all four NFL championships) remained in Cleveland. The Baltimore Ravens were legally an expansion team (the NFL's 31st team), even though they were permitted to retain the players that had previously played in Cleveland.

The St Louis Browns became the Baltimore Orioles, that's what it is talking about. And yes the Browns did move to Baltimore, they just had a clause that let cleveland keep the name and franchise records.
